When our client invited us to design their 80th Birthday Party at the exclusive Langley Hotel in Buckinghamshire, we couldn’t have been more excited. The initial concept presented was that of an Italian al fresco dining experience within the Winter Garden venue of The Langely for a group of 50 guests.
Seeking inspiration from the “Very Italian Dolce & Gabbana Campaign”, we used the concept of hand painted blue & white tiles and pairing these against zesty yellow lemons and armfuls of olive foliage.
We were keen to elevate the concept from a rustic Italian outdoor dining design and create an environment which transformed The Langley’s Winter Garden into a clean and contemporary interpretation of the brief. To achieve this, the whole space was given a makeover; the carpet was changed for pure white, raised platforms around the room created a sunken dining room which exuded a sense of intimacy, giant metal tunnels with intricate Greek Key patterns that seek inspiration from Modern American Glamour ran over each long dining table and supported suspended floral ceilings.
A marquee was built to affix onto the Winter Garden venue; this hosted the cocktail reception and as with the adjacent venue, was given an entire transformation. Large white walls, with geometrical floral designs, elevated the space into a clean and modern interior. Draping then added texture and again, lifted the space, hiding any visible trace of the marquee. Large freestanding screens with bespoke Greek Key patterns that seen inspiration from Modern American Glamour divided the space whilst a large floral cloud of yellow solidago added impact.
Bespoke escort cards to emulate lemon fruits were lasercut from acrylic and designed to hang on our feature wall. These had the names and table position of each guest and looked beyond chic. Contemporary furniture was then added throughout to create an inviting living room which exuded luxury. From Diptyque candles to bespoke books and florals, every detail was carefully considered.
In the dining area, bespoke walls once again disguised the fabric of the building and were embellished using fresh florals in a geometric pattern. A suspended floral ceiling of Italian inspired flowers ran over each dining table. Below, blue & white ceramic vases supported a detailed scheme of yellow blooms whilst fresh lemons were added to each place setting to support name cards. A truly detail driven Italian scheme resulted in the perfect birthday party design.
Our expert event designers and florists didn’t stop there, they created bespoke painted plant pots, large lemon trees, bespoke dining chairs and bespoke table linens to ensure that every part of this pivotal birthday celebration were unique to our client. For many months, our floral designers and scenic designers worked tirelessly to consider each and every moment of this birthday party to ensure the guest experience would be one to remember forever and could never be replicated.
